I am almost embarrassed to say that I watched the movie way before I realized Warm Bodies is book 1 of a series!  I know, I know!! Terrible that I never figured that out until my friends and I finally decided to start a book club together and this is the first book we chose to read and talk about.  Although I really enjoyed the movie, the book was so much better.  Keep reading to find out why 😉

As a Zombie, horror and Young Author Fanatic, this is the perfect book for me.  Warm bodies is different from all the undead tales you’ve heard.  Its from the Zombie’s point of view, one to be exact; his name is “R”.

Just because because you’re dead, it doesn’t mean you can’t change

What the book is about:

Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies is about being alive, being dead, and the blurry line in between.

R is having a no-life crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he is a little different from his fellow Dead. He may occasionally eat people, but he’d rather be riding abandoned airport escalators, listening to Sinatra in the cozy 747 he calls home, or collecting souvenirs from the ruins of civilization.

And then he meets a girl.

First as his captive, then his reluctant house guest, Julie is a blast of living color in R’s gray landscape, and something inside him begins to bloom. He doesn’t want to eat this girl—although she looks delicious—he wants to protect her. But their unlikely bond will cause ripples they can’t imagine, and their hopeless world won’t change without a fight.

The Cover:

The  first cover is the original novel cover and the second one is the movie cover.  The one I personally would own for myself would be the original.  I have nothing against movie covers, but to me its all the more special to choose the book with the cover the author loved.  Also like many movies, it is different than the book so **spoiler alert** the movie cover does not match the book’s version of the story “oh my!”

I give the original cover 5/5 stars.  I love how we have R on the cover with a long road ahead of him.  Kind of ironic isn’t it?  Its literally and figuratively a long road he has to take for the change he wants.  I give the movie cover 4/5.  Its nice and love the red, but  it looks like I am staring at a movie poster.  Not really into it.

So Warm Bodies is not your typical Zombie or Love Story.  It makes you really think about what really makes us alive and human.  The romance is awesome and perfectly written for you romantics out there.  I laughed and smiled and “awed” a lot while reading.  Overall I give Isaac Marion’s novel 5 out of 5 stars.  To my book club gals, I think we picked a great book to read. 😉
